What's Happening

Superintendent's Message

June 1st, 2017

As we enter the summer months, I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere appreciation for the staff and student body of Grant Park School District #6.  Each and every summer, I attempt to take a moment to reflect on the past academic school year.  Frankly, I recently completed a list of the 2016-17 school year accomplishments and/or achievements.  Equally important, I attempt to identify areas of improvement for the 2017-18 school year as well.

As I took a final look at the list of accomplishments this past year, I cannot express in words how proud I am of our kiddos and the staff that works with them on a daily basis.  Although the list is long, I wanted to share with you a few of the items on that list:

  • Grant Park School District was named a “Niche” Top Illinois School District in 2017.

  • Grant Park High School was once again identified as a “Top U.S. High School” by US News and World Report.

  • Grant Park School District #6’s overall composite on the PAARC was once again above state averages and finished as a “Top Tier” school in the area.

  • Our 1:1 Initiative now includes a Chromebook for every student in Grades 4-12.   This technology has become a staple of our learning environment and is a powerful tool for our goal of developing critical thinking skills.

  • Our elementary students are exposed to IPADS, utilizing educational applications to introduce and reinforce necessary academic skills in primary grade levels.

  • Grant Park School District employed a Full Time Guidance Counselor with the critical objective of assisting our students in planning when planning and preparing for post-secondary plans.

  • Grant Park School District continues to emphasize small class sizes and boasts one of the smallest pupil to teacher ratios in the entire area.

  • Grant Park School District implemented a new Title I program with the focus of assisting our students develop necessary ready skills to succeed at grade level.

  • In 2017-18, Grant Park High School will offer four Advanced Placement courses.

Simply stated, incredible achievements by a talented group of students and dedicated educators!

Registration is slated for August 2nd from 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. & 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.  Registration is critical in making our final staffing plans, as we review enrollment numbers and determine class sizes.  For your convenience, I am pleased to announce that Grant Park School District will be offering an on-line billing program (RevTrek) in which parents/guardians can pay registration fees on site with an accepted credit card.

I hope you have a relaxing summer with your family and/or friends.  Again, thank you for the continued support of Grant Park School District #6.
